Cristoforo Medici's Blog
My name is Cristoforo Medici and the year is 1478. I am lucky to live in Florence. Florence is a republic so families like mine have the opportunity to monopolize the government. It is one of the wealthiest city states. Florence is also home to many artists, such as Leonardo da Vinci. I am twenty-six and rather stout. I have a great job working at my family’s bank and I live just outside city walls, with my wife and two son. Life is pretty awesome, but it does have it’s downfalls. The Medici’s are one of Florence richest families and I’ve been able to reap the benefits. There are downfalls to being a Medici though. My uncles Lorenzo and Giuliano were just assaulted during High Mass. Sadly Uncle Giuliano did not survived his injuries. Even though my family mourns his passing we acknowledge that it must have been God’s will. I suspect that Pope Sixtus IV was involved. The Pope has been trying to oust my family since he came into power in 1471. The Pazzi family was most likely also to blame. Ever since the Pope handed them the role of administering papal finances they have wanted even more of my family’s rightful power. That is all for now I must get back to work. Money is not going lend itself.
